HarperCollins is proud to present its new range of best-loved,
essential classics. Featuring the last 12 stories ever written
about the infamous detective, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes
contains some of Conan Doyle's most villainous and unusual
characters. The 1920s was a disenchanting era, and the darker mood
of many of these stories reflects the environment at the time. Some
even felt that the stories showed Conan Doyle exploring
Spiritualism as it was an area he was interested in at the time and
the mental derangement and physical disfigurements that crop up in
many of the stories allude to the horrors of the First World War.
The collection includes 'The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire', 'The
Adventure of the Creeping Man' and 'The Adventure of the Lion's
Mane'.
HarperCollins is proud to present its new range of best-loved,
essential classics. 'They all agreed that it was a huge creature,
luminous, ghastly and spectral.' Originally serialised in The
Strand Magazine, Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles
follows the infamous Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as they
investigate the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville, whose
dead body is found on the misty and desolate Devon moors. The
locals blame his death on the legend of the fearsome phantom hound
that they claim has haunted the Baskerville family for generations.
When the heir to the Baskerville fortune, Sir Henry, also comes
under threat Holmes' detective skills are put to the test as he
battles to discover the truth behind the legend and to solve one of
the most macabre mysteries of his career.

Doyle, unsuccessful in his medical practice, in need of money and a
more satisfying career, had already sold a number of magazine
stories when he wrote the novella, "A Study in Scarlet," the first
Sherlock Holmes story, which, after many rejections, was published
in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887. Doyle got twenty-five pounds
for all rights to the story. He never received another penny for
it, although fortunately, in one of those little contractual
details that could have changed literary history forever, he
retained rights to the character. Here is the book, A Study in
Scarlet, that introduced the world to Sherlock Holmes and his
faithful side kick Dr. Watson.
Sherlock Holmes The Complete Novels and Stories
Volume I
Since his first appearance in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes has been one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created. Now, in two paperback volumes, Bantam presents all fifty-six short stories and four novels featuring Conan Doyle’s classic hero--a truly complete collection of Sherlock Holmes’s adventures in crime!
Volume I includes the early novel A Study in Scarlet, which introduced the eccentric genius of Sherlock Holmes to the world. This baffling murder mystery, with the cryptic word Rache written in blood, first brought Holmes together with Dr. John Watson. Next, The Sign of Four presents Holmes’s famous “seven percent solution” and the strange puzzle of Mary Morstan in the quintessential locked-room mystery.
Also included are Holmes’s feats of extraordinary detection in such famous cases as the chilling “ The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” the baffling riddle of “The Musgrave Ritual,” and the ingeniously plotted “The Five Orange Pips,” tales that bring to life a Victorian England of horse-drawn cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as the greatest fictional detective of all time.
Venture back in time to Victorian London to join literature's
greatest detective team -- the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and his
devoted assistant, Dr. Watson -- as they investigate a dozen of
their best-known cases. Originally published in 1892, this is the
first and best collection of stories about the legendary sleuth.
It's also the least expensive edition available.
Featured tales include several of the author's personal favorites:
"A Scandal in Bohemia" -- in which a king is blackmailed by a
former lover and Holmes matches wits with the only woman to attract
his open admiration -- plus "The Speckled Band," "The Red-Headed
League," and "The Five Orange Pips." Additional mysteries include
"The Blue Carbuncle," "The Engineer's Thumb," "The Beryl Coronet,"
"The Copper Beeches," and four others.

dazzling new series: " Classic Starts." The stories are abridged;

beloved tales (and children) with the respect they deserve--all at

One of the most iconic and memorable of all the Sherlock Holmes
stories. A terrible beast, a house wreathed in fog, treacherous
moorland and a cold-blooded murder - these are the things Sherlock
and his faithful assistant Dr Watson are up against. THE HOUND OF
THE BASKERVILLES gripped readers when it was first published and
continues to endure today.
Neglected vampire classics - including tales by Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle, Algernon Blackwood and others. Selected and introduced by
Richard Dalby. The most famous vampire of them all is Bram Stoker's
'Dracula', published in 1897. But it was not the first piece of
fiction to describe the doings of the undead, and it was by no
means the last. In celebration of the 120th anniversary of the
publication of 'Dracula', this unique anthology gathers together 23
rare vampire stories written by contemporaries of Bram Stoker
between 1867 and 1940, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and M. R.
James. 'Dracula's Brood' provides a veritable feast of pleasure for
all lovers of supernatural and fantasy fiction. This new edition
includes for the first time Barry Pain's 'The Tree of Death'.
